The Downfall of Reason Magazine

The Downfall of Reason Magazine

The age of Reason is over!

The top (supposedly) libertarian publication has run its course and is in decline.

I feel conflicted about this, because in the early days, the right vs. left paradigm had an absolute stranglehold on media. Reason, an actually independent, libertarian publication, was necessary!

But its quest for acceptance became its downfall.

Decades of trying to get legacy media acceptance made them start to mirror the fake news they were meant to counter against.

Especially in the lead up to the 2024 election, Reason constantly published aggressive anti-Trump headlines, accusing him of wanting to do awful things that the current administration’s party actually did, completely shielding Harris from criticism!

A good chunk of Reason’s own staff voted for the worst candidate for liberty, with not a single one definitively voting for the one promising to slash massive amounts of government spending and entertaining having Ron Paul in his administration.

At the end of the day though, it doesn’t matter, because Reason has been obsoleted.

20 years ago, we desperately needed a counterbalance in the media, and I thank reason for serving that role! 🫡

But today, legacy media is dead. And reason is legacy media.

Independent media and the power of social media has delivered truth, and alternative opinions, to untold billions of people, completely circumventing legacy media institutions.

I’m not a media person, but my own random musings get more engagements than Reason’s posts on here. 😬

Reason serves no purpose no, so I’m not particularly upset that they decided to start to abandon liberty.

RIP. Long live independent, decentralized media. ✊
